Strength:

His extraordinary and multifaceted capability as an able administrator accomplished with Zero tolerance in financial and ethics related activities , Ophthalmic surgeon of global eminence , Analyst  in current affairs , Defence, J&K ,Ladakh ,Indo pak ,Indo china relations , International strategies clubbed with the vast exposure to the ground realities of the country specially tuned to the need of rural and middle class population and their aspirations portrait him as a Self determined, zealous and committed  true leader  for the cause of nation building and empowering society with harmony and democratic values.

Family background & Education:

Major General JKS Parihar(retd), was born  to Mrs. Urmila Devi Parihar & Dr Keshav Singh Parihar (Veterinary surgeon) on 26 Feb 1957(Age 62 years 4 months) at Gwalior (MP) in India. His mother belonged to village Ghari hariccha  ,district Bhind where as  his father belonged to a small farmer family from village Pidawali(Tehsil Bari & Baseri, district Dholpur )Rajasthan. His entire school education was held in a Hindi medium govt school in a remote village “Gautampura” ,district Indore (MP) where his father was posted as Veterinary surgeon from 1958 to 1973. He did MBBS from GRMC Gwalior & MGM Indore, DOMS (Indore) MS (Jabalpur) and acquired DNB as well as undergone Post Doctoral Trg in Anterior Seg Microsurgery from AIIMS New Delhi. He has a distinction of being Fellow of National Academy of Medical sciences, India (FAMS).

He got married to Ms Yogeshwari on 20 May 1984 .His father in law Mr Purushottam Singh Chauhan is a farmer by the profession and belongs to  Bada Rawla Betma (Tehsil Depalpur ,Indore (MP) . They are blessed with a daughter Aparna serving as an armed forces officer and son Ashwini who has entered in medical field as doctor. His elder brother is Mr. Anil Singh Parihar .His younger sister Mrs. Neelima Chauhan got married to Mr Sajjan Singh Chauhan who is a retired Police officer from MP. Their families are based in Indore(MP).

Contributions as an Armed Forces Service Officer :

He has served in the armed forces for about 34 years with distinction and attained the rank of Major General which is the second highest rank for any doctor in the armed forces of India. He held various important assignments like Addl Director General Armed Forces Medical Services (Medical Research, Health &Trg, and Education), Professor and HOD of Ophthalmology at AH(R&R) Delhi Cantt & Professor of Ophthalmology at AFMC Pune. He has the unique honour and distinction to be chosen by several top most and prominent dignitaries of India including the President of India as an operating ophthalmic surgeon.

He has extensively travelled across the globe. He has been instrumental in promoting medical co-operation at armed forces level among India and friendly SAARC countries during the period of 2015 and 17.The Govt of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan has conferred Appreciation Award 2016 upon him on 07 Jan 2016 for expressing a perfect sense of humanity & maintaining the roots of mutual friendly relations of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan & Republic of India by demonstrating vigorous efforts have unconditional compassion on the treatment and care of patients from ANA. 

Nation building efforts & service to the mankind:

Maj Gen JKS Parihar has flare and deep inclination towards developing awareness on national harmony, environment protection, water harvesting, women empowerment, rural development, ex -servicemen and defence personnel related welfare and other contemporary issues.

He has in-depth comprehensive analytical knowledge of complicities of Indo – Pak, Indo -sino relations & cross border terrorism. He has raised burning issues like exodus and subsequent need of settlement of Kashmiri pandits.

He has actively participated in deliberations of national interest & health on electronic media as well as published articles in print media on various subjects of prime national importance.

He holds command in creative writing in Hindi as a poet.

Contributions in the field of Medical Education, research and academics, Ophthalmic Surgery, eye banking and Community ophthalmic services.

Maj Gen JKS Parihar has excelled as an academician, medical administrator and instructor of international eminence through his superb professional skill in the highly specialized fields of Refractory Glaucoma and Kerato lenticular refractive surgery and research. In addition to the vast experience in administration and community ophthalmic activities, Maj Gen JKS Parihar has attained  distinction in the field of Medical education .He held various important assignments like Addl Director General Armed Forces Medical Services (Medical Research, Health &Trg, Education)to act as technical head to monitor complete spectrum of  medical education including UG,PG & post doctoral  in the faculties Medicine ,Nursing and Dentistry and  UGs in Pharmacy .He also held the appointment of Professor and HOD of Ophthalmology at AH(R&R) Delhi Cantt & Professor of Ophthalmology at Command Hospital (EC)Kolkata as well as at AFMC Pune.

He has 25 years’ post graduate teaching experience of medical education in the university stream including 14 years as Professor/HOD in a post graduate medical teaching institute. He is a PhD /MS/DOMS/DNB Guide of Delhi, Pune, MUHS Nashik Universities and NBE as well having Post Graduate & Undergraduate Examiner ship of 19 universities.

He has published 102 research publications in national & international journals and presented 705 research papers and conducted Instructional Courses in national & international conferences .He has authored 5 books and many Chapters. He is a peer reviewer of International journals like US journal of Cataract & Refract, British Journal of Ophthalmology, International Journal of Ophthalmology (Springer /Germany) and BMC.

Barring apart an able medical and military administrator, he has phenomenal track record as medical research scholar and academician, he has been deeply entrenched in the field of research and conducted 30 mega research projects under the aegis of Armed Forces Medical Research Committee ,DRDO & Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and various other Govt agencies on Limbal cell transplant, Colour Vision, Phacoemulsification and Glaucoma Valve surgeries.

Major General Parihar is an eye surgeon of international eminence through his superb professional skill in the highly specialized fields of Limbal stem cell transplantation, Glaucoma Drainage devices and Ultra Micro incision Phaconit surgeries. He is instrumental in developing, promoting and transferring highly skilled technology at the national level by conducting live surgery, Instruction courses and wet lab. A first in India, he has performed live Glaucoma Valve surgery in 2009 for the training of his peers and developing expertise in this field in the country. Maj Gen Parihar has more than 70000 Phacoemulsification, 3100 Corneal Transplant , 1500 Glaucoma valve & 1700 refractive laser surgeries in his credit in his more than 37 years of professional carrier. He has supervised and supported more than 60000 cataract surgeries performed by his juniors under his guidance as well.

He has had the unique honour and privilege to be chosen by several top most and prominent dignitaries of India including the President of India as an operating ophthalmic surgeon.

He has a distinction of being Fellow of National Academy of Medical sciences, India (FAMS) since 2012 and member (MAMS) since 2000.

He has extensively contributed towards prevention & control of blindness in the country as well as in Nepal and south East Asia. More than 4 Lakh patients have benefitted in 275 camps conducted all over the country including in remote areas of Ladakh, North East, Maharashtra, Bengal and Nepal. His achievement was endorsed as a world record by the Limca Book of World record in 2013 for performing Phacoemulsification cataract Surgery at the highest altitude of 14106 feet.

He has more than 40 national and international professional and distinguished service awards in his credit. The President of India had conferredSena Medal (Distinguished) ,Bar to VSM and VSM upon him. He has also received APAO Distinguished service award by Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology at Sydney, Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Appreciation Award 2016, VII Dr.M.C.Nahta Netra Suraksha Puraskar, NSPB Award  ,IIRSI Special Gold medal twice in 2013 & 2009 , Air Marshal MS Boparai Award by OTSI .Other noted prestigious professional awards like  the ACOIN Award (Dr Pinaki Ranjan Roy Memorial ACOIN Award) & oration(2014) :  Conferred by Association of Community Ophthalmologists of India(ACOIN) , 7th International Sardar Patel Award 2012 by Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel Foundation ,New Delhi for life time achievement in the field of “Excellence in the field of Ophthalmology,  Dr SN Mitter  award(2019)& Dr PN Khanna award & oration 2014 by Delhi Ophthalmological society ,National Society of Prevention and Control of Blindness Award (2005),Prof AK Mitra Award &Oration 2019 by WB Chapter of  Association of Community Ophthalmologists of India(ACOIN) & ACOIN Air Marshal MS Boparai  Award & Oration 2019 by  Delhi Chapter of ACOIN, Dr SD Athavale Award by Maharashtra Ophthalmological society in 2005 , Late Dr Sandeep Wagh award & oration 2013 ,Late Dr Kumud Joshi Memorial Oration and Award 2015 by NSPB ,MP , Satayavati Sahebrao Madan award by Pune Ophthalmological society in 2003.The prestigious Gold Medal was conferred upon him twice by the Indian Society of Intra Ocular Lens Implant and Refractive Surgery(2013 & 09) and the Award for Excellence in Community Ophthalmic services was Conferred by Health Care Professionals of India(Under National Rural Health Mission ,Ministry of Health and Family welfare ,Govt of India) in 2010.

He has also served /serving asVice President of Eye Bank Association of India ,VP, Delhi Chapter of ACOIN, National Executive of Ocular Trauma Society of India, ACOIN,IIRSI & DOS .

He is affiliated at present with Centre for Sight (Ophthalmic Superspeciality tertiary Care & DNB Trg Institute) New Delhi as a Senior Consultant Ophthalmology & Head, Academics and Trg & Professor of Ophthalmology.
